European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde said preparations for a digital Euro for everyday payments are underway, while highlighting the resilience of the eurozone economy.
However, on another note, she said rising energy prices are expected to keep inflation above the ECB’s target until mid-2027, unwelcome news as many European countries are currently rioting and protesting over the rising cost of living.
Lagarde made these comments on October 17 at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) annual meetings. She said eurozone inflation reached 3.8% in September, mainly due to higher energy costs.
The ECB expects energy-related pressures to ease next year. Despite inflation temporarily exceeding the 2% target, Lagarde believes a cautious monetary policy approach remains appropriate.

Digital Euro Won’t Replace Cash but Will Run Alongside
Lagarde confirmed that the ECB is continuing work on the digital euro, intended for everyday transactions. This new form of central bank money is designed to complement cash, not replace it.
“The digital euro will further stimulate innovation and competition in retail payments,” the European Central Bank President said.
According to Lagarde, the coexistence of public and private payment solutions will enhance Europe’s strategic autonomy, which is vital for developing the European Union’s own payment infrastructure.
In addition, the ECB is working on settlement technologies for tokenized assets. In September, the regulator launched Pontes, a system that allows financial institutions to settle such transactions using central bank money.
The platform currently offers a limited range of services, with full implementation expected by 2028; one goal is to provide an alternative to private settlement instruments, including stablecoins.

European Union Tightens Stablecoin Regulations Ahead of a Potential Digital Euro Release
The development of the digital euro coincides with increased oversight of the EU cryptocurrency market. European regulators aim to ensure that digital asset issuers and service providers comply with standardized regulatory requirements.
The Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) underpins this regulatory framework and sets rules for issuing and circulating stablecoins across the European Union.
On October 8, the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) instructed cryptocurrency companies to gradually cease services involving stablecoins that do not comply with MiCA requirements. Companies have three months to comply, and national regulators must ensure the necessary measures are in place by January 8, 2027, potentially restricting European users’ access to certain digital assets.
Earlier reports indicated that the European Union recognized the USDC stablecoin as systemically important under the MiCA regulatory framework. This decision reflects the increasing significance of regulated digital assets in Europe’s financial system.

While stablecoins offer incredible utility to the crypto space, they aren’t designed to increase in value; instead, they remain pegged to the currency they are paired with.
On the other hand, meme coins have historically offered the most upside to investors, with DOGE, PEPE, and SHIB just three examples of meme tokens that printed thousands of millionaires during their initial runs. The next project in that conversation is Maxi Doge.
Maxi Doge is a meme coin built around a muscle-bound, ultra-confident Doge who lives for the pump. The project positions $MAXI as a momentum-focused token, with a tagline that invites you to feel the $MAXI pump. Buyers can join the presale with a card or with crypto, and Web3Payments handles checkout.
The presale page shows over $4.87M raised toward a $5.21M target (roughly 93%), with 1 $MAXI currently priced at $0.00028440 until the next price increase.
Staking is also live, with a dynamic APY of 64% for early investors, meaning the rate will adjust as more tokens are staked.
