The Democratic faction of the crypto industry is mobilizing against former President Trump’s significant influence. The group has launched a pro-Kamala Harris advocacy group, dubbed “Crypto for Harris,” which is set to host a virtual town hall meeting next week.

The event will feature billionaire entrepreneur and crypto advocate Mark Cuban. The event will also see prominent speakers including SkyBridge Capital founder Anthony Scaramucci, and several Democratic members of the House of Representatives.

High-ranking Democratic Senate leaders are also invited to participate in the town hall, which will be open to the public. The meeting aims to bolster support for the Harris campaign and promote fundraising efforts.

Crypto for Harris currently boasts around 50 members, comprising industry participants and policy experts.

“US Should Maintain Leadership In Crypto”

Jonathan Padilla, CEO of Web3 marketing firm Snickerdoodle and one of the group’s organizers, said in an interview with Fox Business that the US should maintain leadership in blockchain and crypto.

“The US must continue to be a leader in blockchain and crypto,” Padilla said. “Groups like Crypto for Harris are working hard to ensure the right policies and conversations take place to achieve that outcome.”

The initiative comes as the presidential race between Trump and Harris intensifies.

Trump has gained traction among crypto enthusiasts, leveraging the Biden’s stringent regulatory measures.

With Biden out of the race, Harris now leads the Democratic charge for the November 2024 election.

Despite Trump’s head start, Democratic lawmakers and industry advocates are rallying to reclaim the narrative. They aim to persuade the 40 million Americans, who own digital assets, that Trump and the Republicans do not have a monopoly on crypto support.

“We’re not giving this issue to Trump,” declared Rep. Wiley Nickel, D-N.C., who will speak at the meeting. “We want to encourage innovation and protect consumers, but allowing crypto to become a political football will only set the US further behind.”

Trump Makes Inroads Into Crypto

Trump and GOP lawmakers have made significant inroads with crypto voters. The former president has openly promised to dismantle restrictive Biden-era regulations.

At the annual Bitcoin Conference in Nashville, Trump raised over $20 million from industry leaders. He pledged to establish a strategic government reserve of Bitcoin and remove SEC Chairman Gary Gensler if elected.

In contrast, Harris has recently strengthened her campaign with the addition of two former crypto advisers, including David Plouffe, an ex-advisory board member of Binance, and Gene Sperling, a former board member of Ripple.

These appointments, according to Moe Vela, a former Biden adviser now with crypto firm Unicoin, signal a more substantive commitment to the crypto industry than mere campaign promises.

“Bringing crypto experts like Plouffe and Sperling onto her campaign is a far more powerful statement than just standing up at a Bitcoin conference and pandering to the industry for votes,” Vela commented.

However, some in the crypto sector criticize Harris for the stringent regulatory environment under the Biden administration and the attacks from crypto skeptics like Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass.
