George Orwell once said that if liberty means anything, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.

There is a heavy cost for those willing to exercise their freedom of expression.

It gets even heavier for those willing to be free.

Julian Assange Is Free At Last

After more than five years in solitary confinement, Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, was released from a London prison yesterday.

Assange was arrested in April 2019 and spent time at the Belmarsh Prison in London.

He stands accused of enabling the publishing of over 700,000 classified United States documents and diplomatic cables on its wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

This stash was initially leaked by Chelsea Manning, a former military intel analyst.

The good news is that Assange will not be extradited to the United States following a plea deal with authorities in London.

However, after years of legal battle, the activist has agreed to plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to obtain and disclose sensitive United States national defense information.

Assange’s story is closely intertwined with the history of Bitcoin.

In 2010, less than a year after Bitcoin launched, PayPal cut WikiLeaks off, forcing the organization to turn to Bitcoin for fundraising.

This decision even forced Satoshi, the founder of Bitcoin, to contact WikiLeaks and warn them of the dangers they were putting the network in, considering it was still “young” and developing.

Assange Meme Coin Takes Flight On Solana

Crypto developers didn’t waste time to release a meme coin following the refreshing news of Assange’s release.

Barely hours after his release, the Assange meme coin is now live on Raydium, a DEX on Solana.

While the token is cooling off, halving after spiking to over 15X, momentum is picking up.

The Assange meme coin is impressive 700%, garnering a market cap of over $400,000.

The decision to host the Assange meme coin on Solana is strategic.

Unlike Ethereum, Solana offers a low-fee environment and is highly scalable. It is now emerging as a platform of choice for meme coins like Assange, which attracts high trading volume.

At press time, the Assange meme coin had generated over $4 million in trading volume. As prices continue expanding, participation is likely to spike.
