Channel 7 in Australia is the latest crypto scam victim; Hackers used an AI-generated Elon Musk crypto scam to push a wallet drainer.

The worrying rise of celebrities being used to push crypto scams has taken a wild twist.

In the past 24 hours, the YouTube account for Channel 7 in Australia was hacked, resulting in the network’s YouTube channels streaming a Tesla channel with an AI Elon Musk.

The Rise of Scammers Getting Creative With The Use Of AI

Videos were replaced with a live video of Musk with an AI-generated version of his voice telling users to go to a website to deposit various digital assets, such as Ethereum, Dogecoin, or Bitcoin.

“We have done everything to make the process safe; take advantage of this unique opportunity and double your assets now,” AI Elon said in the videos.

Anyone unfortunate enough to go to the website and connect their wallet would immediately have their assets drained in this, unfortunately, increasingly common scam.

In relation to the Elon Musk crypto scam, a spokesperson for Channel 7 said they were “aware” some of their channels were not appearing “as they should”.

“Seven is investigating and working with YouTube to resolve the situation as soon as possible,” the spokesperson from the Australian-based news channel said. When attempting to access the videos, they have now been replaced by the following error message, “pages are unavailable”.

Elon Musk Crypto Scam Highlights Worrying Rise In Hacked Social Media

These grifts are evolving daily, and the use of AI to facilitate scams is a fresh worry.

Recently, celebrities such as 50 Cent and Hulk Hogan have had their social media accounts hacked. The hackers then use the accounts to push scam crypto tokens, leading many to assume that the celebs are endorsing these scam tokens.

Unsurprisingly, the scammers quickly rug-pull all of the tokens.

Just yesterday, heavy metal legends Metallica were the latest victims of this scam. The hackers were quite clever in their approach, as they announced that the scam token, METAL, was launched in partnership with Ticketmaster and crypto payments platform MoonPay.

This Elon Musk Crypto scam hack on the Channel 7 YouTube account is another step in the evolution of these scams.

Hacking a news channel and subsequently using an AI-generated Elon Musk to direct people toward a malicious website shows the ingenuity of these bad actors.
