The Travala announcement will see SOL, USDT & USDC on the Solana blockchain as payment options for hotel and flight bookings

Travala, a Web3, online travel service has announced the expansion of its crypto payment options within the Solana network. It will include support for the main tokens running on the Solana blockchain.

Travala, Solana Integration Announced At Solana Breakpoint Conference

This past weekend saw Singapore host the Solana Breakpoint conference. At the event on Saturday (21 September 2024), Travala CEO Juan Otero announced the integration with Solana to a packed auditorium.

The partnership allows users of the Travala platform to book hotels and flights using Solana’s native token, SOL. The two major stablecoins on the network, USDT & USDC will also be viable payment options.

While Travala has a history of accepting payments via Bitcoin and numerous other cryptocurrencies, including Ethereum, the Solana integration allows users to deposit and withdraw the supported tokens directly on Travala accounts, with zero-fee transactions on travel bookings.

Crypto Community Responds To The Announcement

The crypto community, both in attendance at the Breakpoint conference and on social media, have been extremely promising regarding the collaboration. Travala will also introduce SOL travel rewards in the near future.

A user on X, by the name of BlindRipper, responded to the news. They said, “From a user perspective, @travalacom is the only thing that gives Cryptocurrencies a real world use.”

Solana’s ecosystem has been outperforming Ethereum for some time now. It has produced an ecosystem full of high performing meme coins due to being faster and cheaper than Ethereum. It also has an extensive array of decentralised finance (DeFi) protocols, allowing users to stake, borrow and lend assets across the network.

More Announcements At Breakpoint: Coinbase’s Wrapped Bitcoin Coming To Solana

Also announced at Breakpoint, was the launch of Coinbase’s new wrapped BTC (cbBTC) on the Solana network. Coinbase’s country director for Singapore, Hassan Ahmed made the announcement on stage at the Solana conference.

He said, “We recently launched cbBTC on Base, but our users love Solana, and so do we. So we are very excited to announce that we will be bringing native cbBTC to Solana as well.”

While no exact date was announced for its launch, a wrapped Bitcoin asset on Solana will be huge for the ecosystem. It will enable users to use BTC as collateral for the wide range of decentralised finance (DeFi) applications on the network.
