So, why the sudden pump? Word on the street is that a hacker swiped 3,520 BTC, worth $330.7 million, and swapped it for XMR to launder the funds. The massive buy order, paired with XMR’s thin liquidity after exchange delistings, sent the price soaring. While the hacker is wondering where it all went wrong while others profit, XMR’s privacy features, like ring signatures and stealth addresses, make it the perfect cloak for such shenanigans, which is exactly why regulators have it in their crosshairs.
