The combined meme coin category on CoinGecko has increased 4.9% in valuation, taking the market cap to over $70 billion once more. This sector’s resurgence has led TOSHI crypto, a leading meme coin on the Base chain, to pump 10% overnight.
TOSHI is a cat-themed meme coin, named after Coinbase founder Brian Armstrong’s cat, and has been a mainstay on the Base chain since its launch in August 2023.

Base meme coins are up 7.6% on the day, per CoinGecko. The combined market cap for the Base meme ecosystem has hit $1.3 billion, with TOSHI crypto accounting for $250 million of that figure.
Aside from BRETT, Toshi is the second-largest Base meme coin by market cap. With BRETT’s holders and mindshare waning, TOSHI has quickly become the most recognizable meme coin when one thinks of the Base chain.
It is named after Coinbase founder Brian Armstrong’s cat, which he revealed the name of back in 2023, before the TOSHI crypto coin was spawned shortly after.

With the meme coin sector picking up once more and the Base ecosystem growing exponentially due to the recent launch of its Base App, TOSHI looks set for a run back toward its January 2025 all-time high of $0.00226.
Currently, TOSHI crypto is trading for $0.00059, down 73% from its all-time high. At its peak, Toshi had a market cap of $595 million, and at the time, many within the community believed it would be the next $1 billion meme coin.
