Few anticipated how quickly the United States would embrace blockchain and crypto this time last year. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), then embroiled in a legal battle with Ripple—the platform leveraging XRP for some operations—had just approved the first spot Bitcoin ETF in the country.
Bitcoin, XRP, and other altcoins surged as a result. A year later, Ripple’s token is trading above $2.5, having more than tripled after breaking through $0.50 and $1 following Donald Trump’s November 2024 election win.
The climb past $0.80 and $1 marked a major milestone, and XRP seems to be just getting started. On March 2, 2025, when Trump announced that the U.S. would create a strategic crypto reserve—including “other valuable coins” initially slated to feature XRP—prices soared.
Ripple’s token jumped nearly 40%, from around $2.18 to nearly $3, before cooling off.
