The approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs in January 2024 was a game-changer. Now, instead of institutions tracking Bitcoin prices indirectly via Grayscale Trust products or Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy), they can buy spot Bitcoin ETF shares issued by, among others, BlackRock and Fidelity.
As of June 25, 2025, spot Bitcoin ETF issuers manage over $130 billion in BTC-backed shares. Yesterday alone, over $588 million worth of shares were bought, helping drive Bitcoin above $106,000.

Why Litecoin?
While spot Ethereum ETFs were approved in July 2024, there is growing consensus that Litecoin could be the next digital asset to receive approval from the crypto-friendly United States SEC.
Litecoin still uses a proof-of-work consensus algorithm. While the Litecoin Foundation exists, the network is community-driven and serves as a “Bitcoin lab.”
Another supporting consideration increasing the odds of a spot Litecoin ETF is that the SEC has not classified Litecoin as a security, unlike Solana and Cardano, which were mentioned in lawsuits against Coinbase and Binance.
Moreover, the CFTC considers Litecoin a commodity, placing it in the same category as Bitcoin.

Will The SEC Approve A Spot Litecoin ETF in 2025?
On Polymarket, the largest decentralized prediction market, there is an 80% chance of a spot Litecoin ETF being approved by the end of 2025.

On X, Bloomberg analysts Eric Balchunas and James Seyffart are confident, giving a 90% probability of this derivative product going live by the end of the year.

BlackRock may not be in the race, dimming hopes slightly. Still, players like Canary Capital, Grayscale, and CoinShares are eager to issue spot Litecoin ETFs.
Canary Capital submitted its S-1 form in October 2024, with Nasdaq backing a 19b-4 form earlier this year. The final decision is expected in early October 2025.
Meanwhile, Grayscale aims to convert its Grayscale Litecoin Trust into an ETF, as it did with GBTC and ETHE trusts.
