Build on Bitcoin (BOB) is taking the crypto market by storm, as OGs rally around this project that aims to bring DeFi to the Bitcoin ecosystem via an Ethereum-style smart contract architecture. While BOB crypto is catching a bid right now, up more than +100% overnight, Bitcoin Hyper has a first-mover advantage as a Bitcoin Layer-2.
BOB crypto launched on November 20 at a listing price of $0.0257, and over the following 10 days, it fell to $0.01. However, with the broader crypto market showing signs of a resurgence, Build on Bitcoin has been one of the strongest performers, surging nearly +200%, to $0.03. However, it has since cooled off and is trading back below its listing price, at $0.0245.

Bithumb Exchange Listing and Coinbase Roadmap Addition Led to Spike in BOB Crypto Price
One of the key catalysts behind the BOB crypto price surge over the past few days is the listing announcement on South Korea’s leading exchange, Bithumb.
The listing, which went live yesterday (December 3) at 15:00 in South Korea, immediately pushed the coin’s price higher by over 130% in the initial hours of trading, before a slight pullback to the current trading price of $0.0245.
Bithumb has recently launched a KRW trading pair and will waive transaction fees until December 5, 2025. This initiative offers an incentive for both retail and institutional investors to participate.
Furthermore, gaining access to one of Asia’s largest cryptocurrency markets has greatly enhanced liquidity and trading volume, positioning Bithumb as a key player in the ongoing market rally.
The Bithumb listing has driven BOB crypto trading volume to over $117M, more than double the token’s market cap of $55M. This volume spike highlights the growing buy pressure on the token, especially in Asia, as $38M of that daily volume has come from Bithumb.
In addition, Coinbase has also added BOB to its listing roadmap, following listings on Kraken, Binance Alpha, and KuCoin, which have laid the groundwork for a slew of tier-1 exchange listings in the coming weeks.

Thousands of BOB Crypto Stakers Have Led to More Than 2.5% of the Supply Being Locked
Another factor fueling the surge in BOB crypto is growing staking activity. As of right now, over 2,600 users have locked up approximately 58M BOB tokens, representing around 2.6% of the circulating supply.
The 18-month staking lock-ups come with substantial bonus incentives, effectively reducing the amount of BOB available for immediate trading into 2027.
This level of staking has created organic scarcity that can amplify upward price movements when demand rises, as has been the case during recent exchange listing activity.
Per the Build on Bitcoin website, over 120 projects are building on its Layer-2 network, with over 550,000 users, 40M transactions, and more than $1.7Bn volume on its native DEX.
Build on Bitcoin is going head-to-head with Bitcoin Hyper (HYPER), both projects having a unique position as hybrid Layer-2 blockchains that merge Bitcoin’s security with smart contract functionality, and both attracting attention in the growing Bitcoin DeFi sector.
While BOB crypto uses an Ethereum-style smart contract architecture, Bitcoin Hyper is taking the Solana Virtual Machine (SVM) route, offering higher speeds and lower fees than Build on Bitcoin is likely to offer.
Top Devs are Still Choosing Bitcoin Hyper in Bid to Bring DeFi to Bitcoin
Even with multiple top-tier exchange listings, the BOB crypto market cap sits at just $55M. On the other hand, Bitcoin Hyper (HYPER) has raised nearly $29M in its presale alone, with no VCs or leading exchanges to pump the token, just organic retail investment and several whales dropping six-figures on a HYPER bag.
HYPER is closing in on $30M in presale funding, officially solidifying its position as one of the largest non-VC-funded ICOs of 2025 and lending credence to the view that Bitcoin Hyper is the top pick over BOB crypto as the leading Bitcoin Layer-2 protocol.
Unlike Build on Bitcoin, the Bitcoin Hyper protocol leverages the Solana Virtual Machine (SVM) to deliver breakneck transaction speeds and low fees. At the same time, all operations run on Bitcoin’s core layer, ensuring stability and security.
Another area where HYPER stands out over BOB crypto is its memecoin branding. This helps to attract another layer of investors, as the team behind it is dedicated to creating a comprehensive ecosystem of products for the Bitcoin mainnet while maintaining its memecoin imagery.
The Bitcoin Hyper ecosystem is bringing a range of offerings to the BTC core layer, including DeFi (Decentralized Finance), GameFi, and NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens), among others.
DeFi is the big one for Bitcoin, a market currently valued at over $105Bn, according to CoinGecko data. Right now, over 90% of this value lives on Ethereum, highlighting what a lucrative market Bitcoin Hyper can help BTC carve out its own piece of.
