On 12 November 2025, Dromos Labs, the team behind Aerodrome on Base and Velodrome on Optimism, announced the merging of both platforms to form a single platform called AERO.
This isn’t a simple name change. This is a major strategic pivot that is aimed at turning Aero into a cross-chain liquidity hub. In essence, by merging the two platforms, Dromos Labs aims for AERO to become central to decentralized finance (DeFi).

As part the the merger, the two tokens, i.e. AERO from Aerodrome and VELO from Velodrome, are being combined into one token, AERO. No news token supply is being created. Moreover, AERO holders will receive the majority of future revenue, with a 94.5% share compared to VELO holders at just 5.5%.
In the meantime, AERO will continue its operations on Base and Optimism, but it is also planning to expand to Ethereum’s mainnet and Circle’s new Arc blockchain by the second quarter of 2026.
AERO is launching MetaDEX 03, a big tech upgrade that makes trading more profitable for liquidity providers, saves $34 million a year and gives back to the token holders, and adds a tool that captures extra income from MEV (miner extractable value) activity.

Is AERO Coming For Aster’s Lunch?
AERO isn’t going after ASTER directly, at least not for now. It’s focused on spot trading, trying to become the go-to place for swapping tokens and pooling liquidity across different blockchains.
There are no signs that it wants to get into directives, which is where ASTER shines. AERO’s more like Uniswap, aiming to attract everyday users and liquidity providers, while traders who want fast, high-leverage futures with the safety of a decentralized setup skew towards ASTER.

That said, there’s definitely some overlap. The crypto community has noticed that ASTER’s big airdrop has sucked liquidity away from platforms such as Aerodrome. If AERO’s push onto Ethereum and Circle’s Arc go well, it could bring that liquidity back by offering a smoother and more unified trading experience.
Meanwhile, both projects are expanding across several chains. AERO is moving into Ethereum, Arc, Base, and Optimism. Aster’s already on Ethereum and Solana, and it’s not stopping there.
If AERO nails its Ethereum launch, it could start pulling in casual traders who might have otherwise checked out ASTER’s spot features.
