As if FC Barcelona soccer fans weren’t already having a terrible time following last weekend’s 4-1 drubbing at the hands of Sevilla, the Spanish soccer giants’ official Instagram account was hacked yesterday to promote a scam cryptocurrency project on the memecoin platform Pump.fun.
The hackers claimed that FC Barcelona was “building something massive on Solana”. They promised users that “we’re going to the moon” while revealing the token’s address across two separate Instagram posts.

FC Barcelona Fans Hit With More Misery as Scammers Rug Pull Fake $FCB Token
However, there has been no official announcement from the club’s website regarding this project. FC Barcelona boasts over 144 million followers on Instagram.
At one point, one of the posts had 169,000 views, over 1,600 comments, and 1,400 reposts before it was eventually taken down after several hours, with the soccer club seemingly regaining access to the Instagram account from the hackers.
The token involved experienced typical Solana memecoin volatility; it was created at 0:45 AM UTC and initially reached a market value of $3M before crashing down to just $25,000.
The trading volume for the token in its first 24 hours reached over $3.5 million, but as of today, it is sitting at just $70k. However, the token’s creator earned nearly $26,000 in creator rewards via Pump.fun.

Legit Soccer and Crypto Partnerships are Growing Each Year
While the idea of an FC Barcelona cryptocurrency project may seem far-fetched, it is not entirely unrealistic. Many clubs, including Barcelona, have partnered with Socios at some point to release a “fan token.”
