Ethereum crypto was among the top performers in August. After racing to fresh all-time highs above $4,950, analysts quickly laid out super bullish Ethereum price predictions. And they were not wrong. Holding and choosing to stake ETH crypto can be lucrative, especially if you are a public company and can raise millions of dollars to buy ETH USD in the secondary markets.
At press time, ETH USD remains on a bullish path. There are hints of weakness, but overall, the uptrend remains. From the ETH/USDT chart, the local support is at around $4,200, and on the lower end, the main psychological support to monitor closely is $4,000. If buyers defend against sellers pushing lower, ETH could break out from the bull flag, spiking above $4,950 and reaching new all-time highs above $5,000.

On Coinglass, derivatives traders, some leveraging up to 1000x across exchanges, are easing bullish bets. In the past 24 hours, open interest, which measures open positions, dropped nearly 2% to $57 Bn. However, most traders are hedging to manage positions in case of a volatility spike. Options open interest rose 2% to $16.4 Bn.

Ethereum Foundation Selling: Will ETH USD Hold Above $4,000 By the End of September?
While shaky ETH USD price action may explain their decision, it also appears that investors are taking note of what the Ethereum Foundation (EF) posted on Tuesday, September 2. In a post on X, the EF revealed plans to sell 10,000 ETH, worth over $40 million, through multiple centralized exchanges in the coming weeks.

Conversions will take place over multiple smaller orders, rather than as a single large transaction.

This strategy is familiar. Previously, the EF sold ETH crypto until community backlash prompted them to stake their holdings, using yields to cover operational costs. During those sales, ETH USD struggled, underperforming some of the best cryptos to buy, such as

Now, the EF is selling again, stating that funds will support research, development, ecosystem grants, and donations. The EF is shifting tactics by selling on exchanges instead of to a public company, possibly due to a lack of bulk buyers.
In July 2025, the EF sold 10,000 ETH to SharpLink Gaming. Although ETH/USD prices rose after that sale, the new September batch could push prices below $4,000. Selling often signals a focus on liquidity over holding, dampening market sentiment.

The Federal Reserve is expected to cut rates in late September 2025. FedWatch shows a 91% chance of rates dropping to 4–4.25%, with only an 8% chance of maintaining current levels. A rate cut could boost risk assets like ETH USD; in that event, the Ethereum price could fly above $5,000.
