One day after his campaign promise, Trump delivered the pardon yesterday (January 21). However, the decision marks a monumental moment for Bitcoiners and highlights the new President’s commitment to aligning the crypto sector with his administration.

Justice Prevails: Ross Ulbricht Receives His Freedom After More Than A Decade
Federal authorities arrested and detained Ulbricht in 2013. Two years later, in 2015, he was sentenced to life in prison for creating and operating Silk Road, a website that allowed users to buy and sell illegal drugs, among other illicit products and services.
Ulbricht founded Silk Road in 2011, and it quickly grew to become the go-to marketplace for a host of illegal products, namely illegal drugs such as heroin, cocaine, and marijuana.
Operating the website under the pseudonym ‘Dread Pirate Roberts,’ Ross allowed users to buy and sell products with Bitcoin, which was in its infancy and mostly known as a digital currency used to purchase illegal goods.
“The scum that worked to convict him were some of the same lunatics who were involved in the modern-day weaponization of government against me,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
An X account run by Ross’ family also took to social media, elated at the news of his release. “Words cannot express how grateful we are,” wrote Ulbricht’s wife. “President Trump is a man of his word, and he saved Ross’s life. ROSS IS A FREE MAN!!!!!”
