Known for providing “buy now, pay later” (BNPL) services in 45 countries, the Swedish fintech giant, Klarna, is ready to explore cryptocurrency.
Klarna is well-known among seasoned shoppers for enabling split purchases and instalment payments. The platform is particularly popular among GenZ and Millenial shoppers.
Co-founder and CEO of Klarna, Sebastian Siemiatkowski, got the crypto world’s attention after posting about embracing crypto on X.
On 8 February 2025, Siemiatkowski wrote, “Ok. I give up. Klarna and me will embrace crypto! More to come.
“But it still feels historic,” said Siemiatkowski. “Last large fintech in the world to embrace it. Someone had to be last. And that’s a milestone as well of some sort”

“Tell Me What Should We Do With It,” Klarna CEO Asks Crypto Fans
Currently Klarna has 85 million users worldwide and 100 billion of volume. Klarna CEO said that about 30% of volume is debit not credit.
Furthermore, the company has 0.5 million merchants. Klarna also has over 1 million cards.
“I have some ideas but keen to hear more!,” said Siemiatkowski, while urging crypto fans for their suggestions on how to integrate crypto.

For users, Klarna’s crypto integration could offer new ways to pay, save, and invest.
