Julian Assange, Founder of WikiLeaks is a free man, and a new Solana meme coin named Assange token is exploding in his honor - here's why.

Julian Assange is a free man, and in typical crypto degen fashion, a meme coin has been launched to celebrate. A new ASSANGE token launched immediately after news broke of the Wikileaks founder reaching a deal with U.S. authorities.

So far, the meme coin on Solana is up over +500% and looks primed to continue mooning over the coming day.

The Assange meme coin launched less than 12 hours ago, and although it is up over 400%, it still has a tiny market cap of around $400,000.

At its peak, it was up over 900%, with a market cap of around $850,000. The news of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange being released from prison and heading home to Australia drives this meme coin.

There were two main tokens related to Assange launched: $ASSANGE and $JULIAN. $ASSANGE seems to have won the battle for supremacy, as $JULIAN never broke six figures in volume, only has 180 holders, and now seems to have been rugged by the dev. Assange, on the other hand, has processed over $4 million in volume and has over 1400 holders.

Once he lands back in Australia, Assange will likely begin a media tour, which will be a great catalyst for fueling the Assange token for its next leg.

Wikileaks Deep History With Crypto

In a 2014 interview, Assange said that Bitcoin and Wikileaks ‘helped keep each other alive.’

On Wikileaks’ decision not to accept Bitcoin during its early days, he said that they refrained from drawing government scrutiny that could hinder the cryptocurrency’s growth after a personal request from Bitcoin founder Satoshi Nakamoto.

Years later, when Wikileaks was blocked from raising money via traditional channels, it began accepting Bitcoin for donations.

This provided crucial funding for Wikileaks while boosting Bitcoin’s legitimacy and utility. Another link between Assange and crypto came in 2017 when rumors began circulating that he was dead.

The Wikileaks founder used data from the blockchain as a “proof of life” during a Reddit ask-me-anything (AMA) session.
