Is it safe to buy a Ledger Nano S from Amazon or only from the company’s website?
I believe it would be a little safer to buy from Ledger directly. If someone were able to compromise hardware wallets, their easiest route to defrauding people would certainly be to resell these compromised devices through Amazon or a similar site. It would be far more difficult to intercept packages from Ledger and replace them with compromised devices en route.
Ledger has a fairly extensive explanation on their website as to why they don’t even bother to seal their packages anymore and why the risk of a compromised device is negligible. Do you have any examples where compromised Ledger Nano S devices have found their way into the public’s hands? It’s not an academic exercise. A considerable amount of time and money can be saved purchasing the devices through eBay. I’ve never heard of a single compromised device purchased through eBay from a reputable seller.
