Multiple wallets

Phil Sinclair asked 4 months ago

Hi
Is it possible to have multiple wallets? the reason I ask is that I started my venture with bitcoin in an mlm company in 2014, a private wallet was set up in my name, and I was successful in building a small downline, the mlm company has now stopped functioning but I have searched the transaction features on blockchain.info and it shows a series of transactions, can I determine if there is any value to me? if so how would I do this?
Thank you.

Hi Phil,
sorry to hear about your situation. If the company created the wallet for you I assume they own the private key for it and therefor they are the only ones who can access the funds. Even though you can see the transactions on blockchain.info you can’t really access the money without the private key.
For the future, please use the Bitcoin scam test before investing in any company to estimate if it’s legit. Also I suggest watching this episode about Bitcoin safety.

Yes Phil definitely. Move the coins out of the exchange ASAP. You never want to leave your coins in the hard of a 3rd party.

Hi Ofir
Thank you. I still have a small amount of coin in Bitstamp, which I believe is an exchange? would I be wiser to move this to a wallet that I control?

Regards

Phil
