Young Sohn Joins BitFury Advisory Board
BitFury Group has added Young Sohn, Samsung Electronics president and chief strategy officer, to its strategic advisory board. BitFury recently invested in GoCoin and has expanded the reach of the company through a venture capital program.
Young Sohn has served as the president and chief strategy officer for Samsung Electronics since 2012.
With 30 years of semiconductor and manufacturing experience, Sohn has previously served as CEO and president for four other public companies including Quantum Corporation, Oak Technologies, Agilent Semiconductor (now Avago) and Inphi Corporation. In addition, he helped take three companies public while serving as either CEO or as board member (at PLX Technologies, Synnex Technologies and Inphi). Young began his career at Intel and was responsible for starting the company’s strategic and highly successful PC chipset business.
“We are excited to welcome Young Sohn to our strategic advisory board which is comprised of some of the most distinguished technology and venture industry leaders,” said Valery Vavilov, CEO of BitFury. “Young’s extensive experience in semiconductors and consumer electronics will enable us to explore business opportunities in the consumer electronic devices market.”
“BitFury is well positioned with its custom design chip and data center technology,” said Young Sohn. “The company’s commitment to delivering results through strong and consistent execution of its business and growth strategy has not only allowed BitFury to become a highly respected global Bitcoin company, but to also see new opportunities. I am excited about the opportunity to serve as a strategic advisor to support BitFury’s ambitious goals.”
Other members of the BitFury advisory board include Dr. Jackson Hu, a 35-year semiconductor industry veteran, who previously served as the chairman and CEO of UMC, the world’s second largest semiconductor foundry, and Jonathan Teo – the founder and partner of Binary Capital focusing on early stage consumer technology.
