ShapeShift for iOS Debuts

You can now begin trading cryptocurrency on your iPhone with the premiere of ShapeShift.io’s new iOS application.

The application that will also debut on Android and Google Play shortly allows users to instantly and anonymously. The Android version is under development now by the ShapeShift.io team who decided to begin development on the iOS version first because they expected more changes and items to be issues with the Apple App Store approval process than the Google Play Store.

Erik Vorhees told Wired Magazine’s Kate Vinton,

“We wanted to do the Apple one first because Apple makes it tricky to get Bitcoin apps approved,” Voorhees said. “It was actually an extremely fluid process. I guess the ghost of Steve Jobs was looking out for us.”

The ShapeShift service is unlike most traditional cryptocurrency exchanges in that it does not store customer funds and does not require customer information that creates less attack surface for would be attackers and thefts of information or customer funds.

The ShapeShift iOS app is the first of it’s kind in the Apple App Store. If other exchanges will follow suit and begin rolling out native applications for the various mobile platforms remains to be seen.
