A new crypto scam is rocking the space as crypto hackers deploy fake job scams to crypto hack unwitting victims’ wallets – here’s what you need to know to be careful.

Crypto hackers continue to be creative in ways to extract tokens from unsuspecting victims. There are reports of hackers now using sites such as LinkedIn and posing as recruiters.

During fake interviews, the hackers will have their victims download malware. The malware is used to grant hackers access to a victim’s computer and drain their wallets of all digital assets.

If you follow their instructions, you are fucked.

They vary depending whether you are on Mac/Windows/Linux.

Blockchain Sleuth ‘Tayvano’ Explains Crypto Hackers New Crypto Scam

Tayvano, an anonymous blockchain analyst, has taken X to warn of the latest ruse by hackers. They explain that hackers first reach out to the victims, posing as recruiters from a reputable crypto firm with salary offers of $200,000 to $350,000.

In the past, similar schemes have been carried out with PDF files containing malware. However, hackers are now using a method that involves having the victim follow instructions to fix a microphone and video access issue.

The process involves victims using legitimate video interviewing software, ‘Willo,’ to answer long-form interview questions. However, the bad actors stated that the final question must be recorded in a video.

This is where the crypto hack begins, as the unsuspecting victim will find that granting microphone and camera access is problematic. They will be told it is down to a cache issue before being instructed on how to resolve it.

The resolution in question is to type an Operating System-specific command that effectively gives the hackers back-door access to the victims’ devices. From there, the bad actors can drain any crypto stored on the hacked computer.

Fake Recruiters Are Claiming To Be From Established Crypto Firms Such As Gemini And Kraken

“Ultimately, they’ll rekt you via whatever means are required,” Tayvano said, noting that the malware attacks work on the Mac, Windows, and Linux operating systems.

Tayvano said the fake recruiters are contacting victims via LinkedIn, job boards, Telegram, and Discord. They will advertise a wide variety of roles from business development to marketing. The hackers will pretend to be recruiting for notable crypto firms like Gemini, MEXC, and Kraken.

This new crypto scam is an evolution of PDF crypto hacks, in which victims are sent a PDF file that contains malware. Hackers have become creative in their attempts to stay one step ahead of their victims as people become vigilant about this.
