With the very real possibility of seeing the Silk Road case turn into a movie in the next few years, it was recently made public that one of the people who helped bring down the online drug bazaar was the top drug dealer NOD, who secretly started cooperating with federal agents in July, after his home in Seattle was raided by the authorities, according to The Smoking Gun.
NOD’s arrest back in September was reported by 99Bitcoins here. Steven Lloyd Sadler, the dealer’s real name, was among the “top one percent of sellers” on Silk Road, selling mostly high-quality cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine.
The fact that the dealer was cooperating with the feds might cause some concern to his online customer base, but especially to his suppliers. The Smoking Gun reports that Sadler’s cooperation was disclosed at a brief US District Court hearing earlier this month. NOD’s court appearance was prompted by the arrest of Silk Road’s administrator, Ross Ulbrich, a day earlier.
During this hearing, on October 2, the federal prosecutor Thomas Woods told the Magistrate Judge Brian Tsuchida that “Mr. Sadler has been cooperating, working for the government for the past two months“.
Sadler might perfectly end up inspiring one of the characters of the movie that will tell Silk Road’s story. Coindesk reports that 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment have hired Dennis Lehane, the mind behind the scripts of “Shutter Island” and “Gone Baby Gone”, to write a screenplay based on Ulbricht’s story, also known as Dread Pirate Roberts.
