Gabriel Shipton, Julian Assange’s brother, refutes allegations of an exit scam involving AssangeDAO. Read the real story about the Wikileaks scam here.
Shipton told Cointelegraph reporters this week that blockchain security firms SlowMist and RescuETH are dead wrong in alleging AssangeDAO’s involvement in a “soft rug” exit scam.
“SlowMist’s article is just false — they have confused AssangeDAO for the Wau Holland Foundation, to start with,” Shipton clarified via Telegram.
The Allegations Against AssangeDAO and Gabriel Shipton
Compliance firms SlowMist and RescuETH flagged “suspicious” transactions this week against AssangeDAO, hinting at a “soft rug” exit scam.
According to Shipton, AssangeDAO no longer holds the 16,593 Ether (approximately $53 million) it raised in 2022. Funds were used to purchase an NFT called “Clock” by the artist Pak from the “Censored” collection.
The DAO collaborated with Pak on the “Censored” collection, which includes the Clock NFT tracking Assange’s imprisonment for his WikiLeaks work.
“The proceeds of the sale were all donated to the Wau Holland Foundation Moral Courage Project: Julian Assange — with the nominated purpose to support the freedom and defense of Julian Assange,” Shipton stated.

Shipton confirmed that the Wau Holland Foundation, a German charity, uses the funds correctly and legally.
Shipton’s claims check out with the AssangeDAO spending 16,593 ETH on the Clock NFT on February 9, 2022.
“The ETH has been with the Wau Holland Foundation, who draw down on it to pay Julian’s many legal bills and campaigning costs. […]The Wau Holland Foundation is governed by German charity law and has a long-standing relationship supporting Julian and WikiLeaks,” he added.

Current Status and Blockchain Data for the Julian Assange DAO
Julian Assange is locked up in London, waiting on possible U.S. extradition for espionage. His supporters, including AssangeDAO, argue he’s protected by free speech.
AssangeDAO is still the most funded DAO today, raising over $53 million., inspired by ConstitutionDAO’s attempt to buy an original U.S. Constitution.
While the red flags raised by these security firms were startling to many, the actual flow and usage of funds appear transparent and compliant with its objective: ‘Free Assange!’
