On April 2nd, 21-year-old Justin Moreira was charged with one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and silencer. According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, Moreira ordered a Walther PPK/S .380 caliber pistol and silencer from an undercover federal agent for $2,500 in Bitcoins. He was arrested in January by federal agents monitoring his P.O. box.

This is the Massachusetts resident’s second felony charge. In 2013, Moreira was convicted for possession of heroin with intent to distribute. It is unknown if a darknet market was also used for the heroin.

Regarding sentencing, the US. Attorney’s office explained:

“The charging statute provides for a sentence of no greater than 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000. Actual sentences for federal crimes are typically less than the maximum penalties. Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based upon the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.”

Moreira is currently unable to pay the 250,000$ fine with Bitcoin.
