Hi James,

No, absolutely not. The days when it was possible to mine Bitcoin using your graphics card are long gone. I think they ended for good sometime in 2013, when ASICs took over mining. For more detail on this topic, please see our guide:

However, this is not to say that GPU mining other coins is unprofitable. Depending on the type of graphics card you have, the cost of your electricity and how you go about mining, it can be quite profitable. You won’t make a fortune with a single graphics card but given the right circumstances and coin, you can make a little extra money each month.

Here’s a list of the most profitable coins to mine with your GPU:

Note that these rankings change frequently, although over the last few months I’ve noticed that Ethereum is usually near the top. Monero is probably a better coin though, in my opinion. Anyway, it’s easy to change which coin you’re mining with a GPU (unlike with an ASIC, which can usually only mine one type of algorithm).

When you select a coin, you’ll need to search for how your GPU performs with that coin. It might work better with some coins than others, so there’s quite a bit of complexity to contend with here. Anyway, you’ll learn as you go, good luck!
