Lost Bitcoins

Jasper Koenig asked 12 months ago

I have an original wallet.dat backup from before it contained a bitcoin, but when I load it into bitcoinqt with a downloaded blockchain it shows no balance. When I try to sweep the private keys from the dump, they give electrum wallet nothing. The dump shows that the wallet only existed for ~15 seconds(As it was the backup made upon creating the wallet), is there any way to access the bitcoins that were eventually transferred? I appreciate any help that you can give me.

Hi Jasper,
OK, so it’s a backup of an old Bitcoin Core wallet, from back when it was called BitcoinQT. Do you know which version of BitcoinQT the backup is from?
Have you tried sweeping the wallet with Bitcoin Core? Or perhaps an older version, ideally the Bitcoin QT version which was used to create the original backup? This may yield better results than Ethereum.
Try that and let me know how it goes. Of course, you should create backups of your backup before trying anything. Also be very careful about sending the backup to anyone who claims to be able to help as this would give them control over your coins (if indeed they can be reclaimed).
