Identifying a wallet

Kimberlee Simoneaux asked 2 years ago

I have some bitcoins in a wallet I created a few years ago. I know the wallet address but I can’t remember where (website or app program) I created the wallet in. Is it possible to determine where a wallet was created?  If I can do this then I may be able to recover them especially if the program I used stores the private key.

Any help wokld be apprecisted.

Hey Kimberlee,
it’s impossible to know where the wallet was created according to its address. First of all I suggest looking for a file called wallet.dat to see if it’s on your computer. Second I would perhaps look at old emails if you still have these and search for known wallet providers such as Coinbase, or electrum.
However these are all just general suggestions, if you don’t remember then there’s not a lot that can be done.
