I got some bitcoins on 20 November on 2017 so can you please tell me is it possible to claim all the forks of Bitcoins which were launched after 20 November 2017? is there any time frame to claim Fork?
Can forks of any altcoin be claimed?
Yes, it should be entirely possible for you to claim all forkcoins which have split off from Bitcoin since that date. If you’ve been using the same Bitcoin wallet the entire time, then the process will be to FIRST move your Bitcoins to a new wallet controlled by a new private key and THEREAFTER import your old privkey into the various fork coin wallets (or perhaps a single multiwallet, such as Coinomi) in order to claim the forkcoins.
Be careful with this process, as if you import a private key which controls your real Bitcoin into a fork wallet which happens to be malicious, then it’s possible your Bitcoins could be stolen. This is why it’s important to secure your coins in a new wallet before claiming. For further info and details, see our guides to claiming Bcash or Bgold, as the examples there may help you out:
There is no date by which you must claim your forkcoins, at least for all those I’m aware of… There may be one or two Ethereum forks which can be claimed. Perhaps the best way to monitor which forks are available or imminent is to check out our new guide to them:
Thank you Steven for providing vital information. I have few more questions.
1. I don’t know my private key because my bitcoins are in local bitcoin wallet who doesn’t expose private key. So is there any way to claim Fork coins in this situation?
2. There is a predetermined height defined of Bitcoin Blockchain like on BCD site it is 495866. until this height is reached Forkcoins can be claimed. So if this height hasn’t been reached yet then can I claim Forkcoins by transferring my bitcoins to an Electrum wallet and get private key?
