Blockchain second password issue

Bitcoin Questions and AnswersCategory: QuestionsBlockchain second password issue

Akin asked 1 year ago

Am having a serious problem sending bitcoin from my wallet. It keeps asking me for a second password which has never been asked before. I have been using my wallet to send and receive but this case is quite different. I have never used a second password before or created one, could this problem be from blockchain ? I really need your help please.

Hi Jeff,

It seems to me the only way to recover your wallet is to restore it from your 15 pass phrase. Here is a video guide to this process:

I haven’t done it myself as I don’t use blockchain.info, but I don’t see any risks to using the method recommended in this video (provided you’ve verified that you’re on the real blockchain.info site, as Ofir recommended above).

Hey Akin, this sounds very strange.
Can you please:

  1. Check that you are in fact on the official blockchain site by checking the URL bar and not on some phishing site?
  2. Attach a screenshot of what is being asked of you

Perhaps this is a 2fa process?
Please don’t attach any screenshot with sensitive information here though since this is a public post.
Let me know

I have a bitcoin wallet stored in your site since 2013. At the begin I could just logging using one single password. After 3 years I have tried to login again in order to start using my wallet, but unfortunately the web ask me for a second password. I can assert that I did not receive notifications about the existence of that second password, it looks me totally like a bug: apparently you have introduced a new security feature but u have forgot to notify properly the old users. As you explain in your poor documentation, the second password is only required to spend funds or to recover the password, but i cant even login.
To sum up, I have the first password, the 15- words mnemonic, and control over the associate email [email protected].
I always keep the important emails in a special carpet, and in this case there is no nothing in my email account. So please, dont give me always the same answer, I read about theres more people in the same situation. How can be that possible?

Exact same thing with me. I have all my passwords and phrases saved and Blockchain.info won’t let me update from my legacy wallet without a second password that I have never created. Any answers?

Hello Javier,

We do not have Bitcoin wallets on our site we are just an information blog. Moroever the site has been established only in 2014. I think you have your sites mistaken and are looking for a different site.

Has this been resolved for any of you?   I am having the same problem.  I never created a second password but Blockchain.info is asking for one before I can update/access funds.   I have my wallet id, password to access wallet, 15 word pass phrase,  and my 2fa password but I don’t have the second password it’s asking for and I am locked out.   Help if you can! Thanks!

Well the explanation of the video works gratefully. I just supplied my 12 (not 15 ) secret phrase. After some delay with makes me shiver down my spine, then I got thru a new form where informed my e-mail, provided a new password and then entered my wallet with my funds restores, where I reset all secuirity configuration, 2FA, the d%&¨&%$ second password, the secret phrase. No I am back to the game again

I have been in communication with the team over a similar issue whereby I was able to access my legacy imported wallets with the second password but the same password was unable to be applied to the wallet generated by blockchain.info.  I have a fair amount in that wallet which was transferred as recently as start of 2017, I was also able to withdraw from my imported wallets using the second password as late as June 2017.

Their answer is not just unhelpful but also degrading and I m going to take legal action against these guys to make sure when they upgrade next time they do this properly.  If anyone would like to join me in this petition and possibly lawsuit against them, please PM and email me at I have been in communication with the team over a similar issue whereby I was able to access my legacy imported wallets with the second password but the same password was unable to be applied to the wallet generated by blockchain.info.  I have a fair amount in that wallet which was transferred as recently as start of 2017, I was also able to withdraw from my imported wallets using the second password as late as June 2017.

Well that is well known now and this is why they are hiding out in Luxembourg now, I guess, next will be Malta??
Some people discover a second pw they have never set, others like me have a changed second pw and can NOT withdraw like me 2.03 bitcoins, 14000 Euros now. Result: loss of ALL assets
Interpol was of no help, police in Luxembourg was of little help, phoning me back and telling me I should vist them in Luxembourg, then I decided to complain offficially with the FBI, because they started in in the USA. Next will be Scotland Yard until those slimy “Zendesk” bullshit talkers are GONE.
I tried EVERYTHING to et MY money, it was not possible, also not for experts,
So inform LE and make a lot of noise
