I have several Linux mint computers in my home, mostly 32 bit. Is there a way to let them mine for “Bitcoins” in the background, or when idle_? I am looking for software

While this is possible, it’s not really going to prove worth it. Bitcoin mining has moved on from CPUs to GPUs to specialised ASICs, which are specialised devices millions of times more efficient at mining than a desktop or laptop. See this section for more detail:
What I suggest instead is mining something more CPU-friendly, like Monero. You should see a far better return on your mining efforts this way. I believe that the Monero GUI wallet contains a CPU miner but you might want to check our Monero’s website and reddit for further advice on mining it.
